13 WREX has been named the Outstanding News Operation by the Illinois Associated Press for the second time in the last four years.
The award was presented Saturday night in Urbana at the Illinois News Broadcasters Association Spring Convention.
The Outstanding News Operation award is the top prize presented at the annual awards banquet and was one of a state-leading eight awards WREX received Saturday night.
"Being named the Outstanding News Operation is one of the biggest honors our station can receive," said Josh Morgan, News Director at WREX. "To win this award you must have an incredible group of people that is committed to excellence on a daily basis. We are so lucky to have such a talented group of journalists who care so much about the work they do."
WREX was honored with four 1st place awards and four 2nd place awards in seven different categories.
According to the AP, 34 broadcasters, in both radio and TV, submitted 261 entries in the contest, which featured news, sports and investigative reporting as well as features, documentaries and newswriting from 2016.
13 WREX competes in the Local TV category which includes stations in the Rockford, Peoria-Bloomington, Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, Quincy, Harrisburg and Quad Cities markets.
