ROCKFORD (WREX) -

He died 13 years ago, but Noah Boos' untimely death helped dozens of other people waiting for transplants.

"Our son Noah was about 18-years-old and he initiated the topic of organ donation in our kitchen one morning," said Gayle Boos, his mother,  "I told him, 'Noah I did not want to' and he said, 'No mom, it's important.  So I listened because he was wise beyond his years."

Noah died in a car wreck on his way to college in Freeport.  There'd been a bad snow storm over the weekend.

Noah's tissue donation helped 23 others.  It was all coordinated by OSF St. Anthony.

The hospital was recognized Thursday for coordinating so many donations like Noahs'.

For recipients, this is a very emotional process for them too.

"That weighed on me for a while," said Mary Barker, who had a lung transplant at OSF.  "That someone had to lose their life for me to get this. I do treasure it and I appreciate it everyday."

St. Anthony was in the top 15 out of 180 hospitals in Illinios for tissue donations last year.
