A woman from the Stateline is recovering Thursday after falling about 50 feet at the Grand Canyon earlier this week.
The Mohave County (Arizona) Sheriff’s Office says they were called out on Tuesday afternoon after Gail Peterson, a 70-year-old woman from Pecatonica, fell 50 feet into a deep crack between two rocks at the national park.
Authorities say the woman wedged herself between the rocks to keep from falling all the way to the bottom, but that she would slip down a bit each time she took a breath.
Multiple agencies were called to the scene and a rescue worker was lowered down to help secure the woman.
Rescue workers were able to lift the woman to safety. She sustained multiple cuts, scratches and bruises during the ordeal.
The victim was airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment. She is listed in good condition Thursday morning.
