TIMELINE: The Kyrian Knox murder case


After more than a year of investigating, Chicago Police have announced that an arrest has been made in connection with the Kyrian Knox murder case. 

13 News has created a timeline of events in the Kyrian Knox case.

September 5, 2015: Over Labor Day weekend disturbing details out are reported out of Chicago that a child's body parts were found in Garfield Park.

September 17, 2015: Rockford Police respond to a missing child call. Police said that call was made by the people caring for the little boy.

September 20, 2015: Rockford Police go public with the name: Kyrian Knox.  At a press conference, Assistant Deputy Chief Pay Hoey said, "There is no evidence to support that he was abducted. This is not a random act."

The Rockford connection starts to emerge. It is learned Chicago Police had come to Rockford to take a DNA sample from mother Lanisha Knox.

September 21, 2015: WREX speaks to Lanisha for the first time over the phone.  13 News asked her if she felt like something happened to her son.  She said, "I don't know."  She went on to tell us she'd left her son with family friends while she was moving.  She said she last saw Kyrian in mid-August, but said she would speak to him over the phone.

October 3, 2015: Lanisha Knox arrived in Rockford with a bus load of volunteers from Chicago to search for her son.  She said at the time,"On the outside, I look perfectly fine, but on the inside, I'm a wreck."  She maintained Kyrian's care was left to others when he disappeared.  She said, "I honestly never knew he was missing because he was with my best friend's dad."

November 4, 2015: Chicago Police confirm that the remains found in the lagoon are Kyrian.

November 5, 2015: Rockford Police confirm that Chicago investigators traveled to Rockford to interview someone about this case.

November 11, 2015: Chicago Police say they have a person of interest in the case. They did not name the person, but he was known to the Knox family and had ties to Rockford.

November 19, 2015: Chicago Police ask for cooperation from last people to see Kyrian Knox alive, Kamel Harris and his girlfriend Danyelle Foggs.

June 17, 2016: Kamel Harris is arrested in Rockford on unrelated charges.

July 20, 2016: Chicago Police say that Harris "refuses to cooperate" with the investigation.

November 15, 2016: Chicago Police announce that an arrest has been made in connection with Kyrian's death.
