Auburn senior offensive lineman Vederian Lowe is our OSF St. Anthony's Athlete of the Week. Lowe is a dominant force up front for the Knights, who are heading to the state quarterfinals for the second straight year.
"We pride ourselves on our big lines," Lowe said. "Both offensively and defensively. With coach [Dan] Appino, we talk about pounding these guys running the ball. The running backs we have, we can do that."
Lowe also works hard in the classroom, something he'll take with him to the University of Illinois, where he'll play for coach Lovie Smith.
"Education is the most powerful thing you have," Lowe said. "My mom prides herself on me hunkering down and getting my schoolwork done. Going to college, I'm going to utilize the scholarship Illinois is giving me to further my academic career."
Auburn takes on Plainfield North in the state quarterfinals Saturday at 2 p.m. in Plainfield.
