Belvidere North captures 2-A girls cross country state title

Belvidere North's girls cross country team left Peoria with a new trophy for the Lady Blue Thunder's display in Boone County, winning the 2-A state championship as a team.

Senior Jenna Lutzow, a former WREX Athlete of the Week, finished with the best time in the classification, clocking in at 16:35. Her teammate Madison Diercks placed fourth overall as an individual.

Boylan's Delaney Appino and Grace McLaughlin competed as individuals and placed second and third respectively for the Lady Titans.

The top four finish of Lutzow, Appino, McLaughlin, and Diercks is identical to the top four finish at the 2-A Belvidere sectional, continuing a dominant stretch for the NIC-10.

Other notable finishes at the state finals included Rockford Christian's boys team placing 4th overall in the 1-A final, with Riley Wells placing 8th individually. The Lady Royals' Madison Franseen and Byron's Emma Hildreth placed in the Top 25 of the 1-A girls state finals.
