Police were stopping cars at a Rockford intersection Friday morning, but instead of giving drivers tickets, they gave them donuts.
The event was part of the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department's "Donut worry - it's not a ticket" giveaway.
At the corner of Kilburn and North Springfield sheriffs deputies handed out 15 dozen donuts to unsuspecting drivers. The morning treats were donated by Curans Apple Orchard.
"Its great. Instead of issuing at ticket we issued a donut," Tammie Stanley from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department said. "Some people were a little hesitant rolling their window down, but once they did they finally figured it out when I stuck the box in their to take a donut."
The goal of the giveaway was to promote goodwill between law enforcement and the public.
