Senator Dick Durbin (D) released a statement Tuesday afternoon addressing the closing of all ITT Tech campuses nationwide, including four locations in Illinois.
Durbin says that he has always believed that taxpayers "would pay dearly for the exploitation by for-profit colleges that Congress and Washington fail to properly regulate."
Durbin added that ITT's closing has put the future of many students in flux, and called on the Department of Education to act quickly.
ITT announced it was shutting down its campuses just days after the Department of Education banned it from enrolling new students who use federal financial aid.
ITT Tech operated four campuses in Illinois – Arlington Heights, Oak Brook, Orland Park, and Springfield.
