Mayor Morrissey choosing not to seek a fourth term is just one of many leadership changes in Winnebago County.
Winnebago County Chairman Scott Christiansen announced he would not seek re-election earlier this year. He has served the county for nearly three decades.
Rockford's longtime Police Chief Chet Epperson retired last November. Epperson was appointed Police Chief back in April of 2006, just a year after Mayor Morrissey was elected.
New Police Chief Dan O'Shea was sworn in this past April.
In November 2014, Gary Caruana was elected Winnebago County Sheriff.
There have also been leadership changes in higher education, with a new president taking over at Rockford University, and a new president to be announced soon at Rock Valley College.
