South New Towne Project to Break Ground Tuesday

Construction will officially begin on the Rockford Housing Authority's South New Towne Drive development Tuesday.

The Rockford Housing Authority and the Gorman Company will hold a groundbreaking Tuesday morning starting at 10:30 a.m.

The multi-family housing complex is being called "The Grove at Keith Creek," and will have 49 apartments and townhomes set on six acres.

Twenty two of the units are slated for home ownership.

The Grove at Keith Creek is the first of three phases of the plan. The RHA plans to decentralize Fairgrounds Valley units with this project.

The project has been controversial from the start, with Gorman filing a lawsuit against the city and area residents suing to stop the project earlier this year.
