Rockford's unemployment rate in July was down compared to last year.
Rockford's unemployment rate was 6.2% in July, down from 7.8% in July 2015. The area added 2,900 non-seasonally adjusted jobs.
Twelve of the state's metro areas experienced decreases in their over-the-year unemployment rate and eight of the metro areas had increases in non-farm jobs, according to preliminary data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES).
"Our job growth rate is still half that of the rest of the country,” said IDES Director Jeff Mays. “Most of our job growth is concentrated primarily in the northeast corner of the state while downstate job growth continues to lag.”
