Rosecrance board votes to terminate triage program in 30 days

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Rosecrance's Board of Directors voted Tuesday evening to terminate it's mental health triage program in 30 days if alternative funding can't be secured.

Rosecrance said efforts will be made over the next month to secure emergency funding for the program through local sources.

In November, Rosecrance cut the hours of the triage center in half because of a lack of state funding.  Since then the facility's future has been uncertain.

Rosecrance found out on Friday that it would receive $500,000 for the triage program from the state for fiscal year 2016, but Rosecrance said that's only a third of the money it's owed.

Rosecrance has asked the Illinois Department of Human Services for $750,000 for fiscal year 2017, but Rosecrance said it has not receive a commitment from the state for that money.

"The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) values its continued partnership with Rosecrance and recognizes its contributions to the Rockford community. Rosecrance will be receiving roughly $1.25-million from the state for services provided in FY16 once processed by the Comptroller. Until the General Assembly passes a balanced budget alongside meaningful reforms for fiscal year 2017, IDHS cannot guarantee payments like the one Rosecrance is seeking."
