The Hononegah Indians have a fresh start and clean slate for the first full season of Brian Zimmerman holding the permanent role of head coach, and he's handed the controls of the offense over to junior quarterback Dominic Ballano.
Ballano's brother Sam is a former WREX Athlete of the Week and star running back at Hononegah. The young QB learned a lot watching his brother go to work in the purple and gold.
"One thing I learned from him is to have no fear at all times," Ballano said. "We always have to go 110% on every play. Football is 90% effort and 10% talent and what we preach here at Hononegah is to never give up no matter the circumstances. You're always in a position to win if you have the heart."
"Dominic played six games with us (last year). We're extremely confident in his ability," says Zimmerman. "He's been completing passes this year and that's great for us because in years past we haven't done that as much."
The Indians' run-heavy offense struggled at times to score points last year - in three of their four losses, they failed to put double digits on the board. Ballano will look to lead a reloaded and high-octane attack, starting next Friday at home against Freeport.
