Winnebago Football has missed the playoffs twice during Mark Helm's run as head coach of the Indians, and after a five-win campaign in 2015, they're bringing back plenty of returning talent to get back to the postseason, and make a run.
When Helm thinks about how he wants his team to be defined, he goes to one word. "I'd like to think balance. We have a three-year starting quarterback back, guys in the backfield...young receivers have a lot of experience from last year. I want to think balance, and a lot of guys can hopefully contribute."
"I think the best example was our freshman and sophomore year, that was a great team with a great work ethic," says senior tight end/linebacker Jace Warkentien. "They played hard all the time. The past three years, teams have looked down on us, last year we made the playoffs and I think we can be even better this year."
Winnebago starts the season with a former BNC member as Marengo comes to town next Friday night.
