Freeport ready for NIC-10 breakthrough in 2016

The Freeport Pretzels won one game in 2013 in Aaron Wichman's third season with the program. Since that campaign, Freeport's win total has increased in each season, and they hope to not just build on that success this year, but break through and make the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

The Pretzels have experience and returning starters aplenty on their defensive side, and will rely on that unit to create turnovers and opportunities for the offense to dictate game flow.

"They're ready. They're ready for picks," says Freeport's Deion McShane. "They like to pursue and they get to the ball fast. It'll be a good year."]

"It's crazy how many returning starters we have," says Freeport's Zeke Vandenburgh. "We feel defense is our strength for sure. We're not too shabby on the offensive side, but defense should be our calling card."

Freeport's season begins next Friday at Hononegah.
