Lorraine Infeld has been a Freeport native since 1960, and her son Michael ran for the Pretzels before raising his family in Ohio, where Emily Infeld learned the ins and outs of track and field. She won the 10K bronze medal at the 2015 world championships in Beijing, and this year, represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
Infeld ran the second-best American time in the 10K on Friday, clocking in at 31:26.94, finishing 11th overall in a race that saw the world record fall for the 10,000m. It was the first medal event in Rio for the track and field program, airing on WREX-TV for her grandmother Lorraine to watch and cheer her on.
"It's awesome. It's incredible," says Lorraine Infeld. "So pleased. We're just happy, and she's an awesome young lady."
