Kyle Slattery started Sunday at Aldeen in a six-shot deficit behind Kevin Flack for the final round of the Greater Rockford Men's Golf Classic. 18 holes later, Slattery was the last man standing at the top of the leaderboard, winning his second straight Men's City title.
The comeback came together on the back nine as Slattery pulled to within one shot of Flack on 16 with a birdie while Flack scored a double bogey on the par five. On 17, Flack came just short of another birdie, while Flack's third shot on the par four fell in for a two shot lead with one to play. Slattery took advantage of another Flack double bogey on 18, putting a birdie on the last hole to seize the victory by one stroke.
Slattery successfully defended last year's Men's City championship, won in dominant fashion. This year brought a polar opposite experience, but the same result for the Boylan graduate and rising sophomore at SIU-Edwardsville.
