A Winnebago barn is now a total loss after a fire engulfs it for at least an hour Thursday night.
Win-Bur-Sew Fire Department says lightning struck the barn around 10 p.m. at 2161 south Winnebago Rd. That's when the barn caught fire, causing about 25 different departments to put it out.
Win-Ber-Sew Fire says one cow was killed and no one was hurt. The estimated damage is at $500,000 and is considered a "total loss," according to the fire department.
"We were able to bring in additional resources in this area," Win-Bur-Sew Fire Chief Robert Martin said. "There's no water in this area so we brought in a lot of tenders to haul the water."
One of the family owners say the barn housed about 100 cows and are being transported to other farms Friday morning. It took more than an hour for fire crews to put out the blaze.
Barry Palm has worked at the farm with his dad and brother all his life and says his family bought Palmdale Farm in 1965.
