Rockford Police make arrest in June 19 Shooting


Rockford Police have arrested a Rockford man from a shooting that took place June 19 at the 900 block of 6th Avenue.

Police were responding to reports of a large fight with shots fired.

The person shot, 25 year old Billy Manning was shot several times and was treated for life threatening injuries.

A warrant was issued for 21 year old Damarius Nelson on a charge of attempted murder.

Patrol officers and members of the Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement team arrested Nelson Wednesday at an apartment in the 500 block of North Court Street.  Officers says Nelson was in possession of a handgun that had bee reported stolen.

He was also wanted on a warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections for a parole violation.

Nelson is in the Winnebago County Jail.
