The next time you travel on the Rock River by boat in Rockford you will likely see a new dock.
The Rockford Park District opened a new dock on the Rock River Saturday evening.
It's located in front of the Riverfront Museum Park.
The dock is open to public boaters as well as the city's Forest City Queen Riverboat.
The Rockford Park District Foundation raised nearly $200,000 for the project.
The dock is the park district's 5th one on the Rock River and likely not the last.
"We're looking in the future perhaps to put docks at the new sports factory and at Davis Park. So we're really beginning to connect some of the great assets
we have by water, not just by bicycle, or walking or automobile," says Rockford Park District Executive Director Tim Dimke.
The park district says it's also looking at adding a water taxi that would transport people to some of its five different docks on the Rock River.
