The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois kicks off Project Opportunity.
It's a summer initiative to reach Rockford's under-served girls.
They do so by providing low or no-cost programming to girls who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the Girl Scout leadership experience.
"Thanks to the Northern Illinois Community Foundation and the Rock River Valley United Way we're able to extend our school year program that we do throughout the year into the summer to provide activities for the kids," Outreach Program Manager, Stephanie Sturm said.
Project Opportunity has served over 10,000 girls in Rockford over the past decade.
