CHICAGO (AP) - A woman with a history of sneaking aboard planes slipped past security at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport this week and was flying to London when the airline realized she didn't have a ticket. Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Marilyn Hartman was flown back to Chicago on Thursday night and taken into custody.
GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is trying to determine if there is anything to reports of a cougar being spotted in a DuPage County forest preserve. The Naperville Sun reports that a forest preserve district police officer investigating a report by a visitor about a possible cougar in the woods spotted an animal that looked like a cougar in the East Branch Forest Preserve in Glendale Heights.
CHICAGO (AP) - Oral arguments before a Chicago appeals court have focused on whether President Donald Trump's administration was overstepping its authority by withholding public safety grants from sanctuary cities unless they fully enforce immigration laws. The case the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday stemmed from a city of Chicago lawsuit. The Justice Department appealed to the 7th Circuit in a bid to reverse a lower-court ruling temporarily freezing the policy nationwide.
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Gov. Bruce Rauner has issued an order that bars legislators from financially benefiting from state property-tax appeals. Rauner issued an executive order Friday calling such representation "a clear conflict of interest that must end." It's effective immediately. Rauner has often accused Chicago Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan of benefiting from high Illinois property by helping clients appeal assessments. Madigan has maintained he operates by a strict code of ethics and within the law.
