Rockford Nurse Files Suit Against Winnebago County Health Department
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Sandra Mendoza, a Rockford nurse, has filed suit against the Winnebago County Health Department after she claims she was forced out of her job as a pediatric nurse.
A news release from a Chicago attorney firm states Mendoza, a devout Catholic, had worked for the health department for 18 years.
The release states the health department's Public Health Administrator, Dr. Sandra Martell mandated all nurses be trained to provide abortion referrals and participate in provisions such as Plan B. Mendoza says she was given two weeks to quit or accept a demotion when she informed Dr. Martell of her conscientious objections.
Mendoza refused the demotion and was forced to resign in July 2015.
A statement from the Winnebago County Health Department says it does not comment on pending litigation.
