Many got up bright and early Sunday to participate in the Rockford Marathon.
It was a beautiful day for the Rockford Marathon and Half-Marathon. There was also a 10K race, so there were plenty of options and something for every runner to choose from.
The downtown course started at State and Main streets, and ran across bridges and along the Rock River.
More than 1,400 runners registered, and organizers say it's growing every year. The event drew runners from nearly 20 states into Rockford.
"In our 9th year, there's been monumental changes to the city of Rockford," said Hank Zemola, Race Director from Chicago Special Events Management. "There's a really good electric vibe which is just amazing and we see it."
A portion of this year's proceeds will benefit the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
