Saturday in the Stateline wrapped up the regional round of the 1A and 2A baseball and softball playoffs with local teams advancing to sectionals.
The 1A baseball bracket will have Aquin, Dakota and Eastland continuing their seasons after regional championship victories. The Bulldogs held off Lena-Winslow 2-1, and Aquin will next face Milledgeville in the sectional semifinals at River Ridge. That sectional will put Dakota and Eastland together in the other semifinal. The Indians defeated South Beloit, 10-0, while the Cougars squeaked out a 6-5 comeback in eight innings against Indian Creek.
The 1A softball postseason catapulted Dakota and Pearl City to the Pecatonica sectional. The Lady Indians defeated Durand 10-2, while the Lady Wolves cruised past East Dubuque, 8-2. Pearl City and Dakota will meet in one semifinal, while Lena-Winslow and Ashton-Franklin Center match up in the other.
In the 2A baseball playoffs, Stillman Valley blanked conference rival Winnebago, 1-0, on the strength of a complete game shutout from sophomore Andrew Wilhite. The Cardinals draw Warren in the Morrison sectional semifinals after the Warriors beat Forreston in the regional finals, 12-4. The Lutheran Crusaders outlasted Aurora Christian 10-6 in their home regional final, and next play Fulton in the sectional semifinals.
The 2A softball regional championships were won by Stillman Valley and Byron to represent the Big Northern at the Stillman Valley sectional. The Lady Cardinals advanced to their home sectional with an 8-3 win against Oregon, with Sterling Newman on deck. Byron blanked Forreston, 9-0, and have Morrison next on the schedule in the sectional semis.
