The RVC softball team won its third straight national championship after defeating Herkimer County Community College, 5-4, in Rochester, MN. The Golden Eagles rallied from a 4-0 deficit to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
RVC is only the second school to win three straight NJCAA Division III softball national championships since the NJCAA moved to three divisions for softball in 1997. They are also the first RVC team to win three straight national championships in any sport and they join women's basketball and volleyball as the only RVC teams to capture three national titles.
In Darin Monroe's five seasons leading the Golden Eagles as head coach, they are 205-53 (.795) with four straight conference championships, four straight trips to the national tournament, and now three consecutive national championships.
For RVC athletics as a whole, this is the 17th national championship and the 10th since 2011. The college has won two national championships each year for the last three years.
