The 2-A and 3-A girls track and field preliminary round at the state finals in Charleston catapulted numerous 815-area athletes to Saturday's finals.
Boylan's Delaney Appino stole the show in the 1600m run as the Lady Titans junior completed a 4:59.40 mile, good for first place amongst all participants on Friday. Appino will also compete in the 800m run. She'll be joined by Boylan teammates Gabby Noland (400m), Grace McLaughlin (3200m), and Bridget Bishop (shot put) at the finals.
Other 2-A state finalists include Sterling's 4x100m relay team and Margaret McPherson, who will run for the Lady Golden Warriors in the 1600m event. Rochelle's 4x400m relay team, Dixon's Tayla Schwarz in shot put, and Genoa-Kingston's Carly Fischer in discus, all advance to the 2-A finals.

The 3-A state finals will have Rockford-area representation. Former Athlete of the Week Nicky Althoff qualified for the finals for Hononegah in the 400m dash. The Lady Indians' 4x400m relay team also advances.
Belvidere North's Jenna Lutzow advances to Saturday in the 800m run, while other NIC-10 representatives Alexandria McCoy (Auburn, shot put) and Kendra Moreno (Jefferson, pole vault) clinch spots in the finals.
DeKalb's Savannah Long (100m and 300m hurdles) and Cory Mata (discus) booked their 3-A state finals spots as well.
