It wasn't ideal playing conditions, but one local baseball team started its season Saturday.
The Rockford Starfires played Saturday morning taking on the Chicago Gems.
The women's baseball team started with a home game at Beyer Stadium, also home to the Rockford Peaches.
The Starfires even had support from a former Peach, Helen "Sis" Wyatt, who threw out the first pitch.
"It's been kind of a dream of Steve and myself to have the team established and get to play on the field where the Rockford Peaches played," said Greg Schwanke, Coach of the Rockford Starfires.
Admission is free to Starfires games, but organizers encourage bringing canned goods instead.
