Two suspects in custody after officer involved shooting in Galena

Posted: Updated:

The Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office says multiple law enforcement agencies helped in the apprehension of two suspects wanted in San Bernardino, Ca.

The two suspects, Andrew J. Cummings, 27, and Crystal Lynn McLaughlin, 32, were wanted on felony warrants out of San Bernardino County.

Police say a response team attempted to apprehend the suspects at a Galena motel, but the suspects displayed a weapon to the team and fled in a stolen vehicle, hitting a police vehicle. An officer attempting to apprehend McLaughlin as she entered the vehicle was dragged a short distance as the suspects attempted to leave the scene.

Police then shot twice at the suspect vehicle, with one shot hitting the driver's side door and the other shot disabling the passenger side front tire. The suspects continued to drive, however, and attempted to drive west on Highway 20 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was unable to continue after a short period of time, and the suspects fled into a nearby wooded area, according to officials.

The suspects were taken into custody after a search of the area.

The officers that were injured were treated and released at a nearby medical facility.

Both suspects are in the Jo Daviess County Jail pending additional charges and a bond hearing.
