Rockford Police say that a passenger of a vehicle connected to a shots fired incident and a pedestrian crash was taken into custody after running from police.
Officials say at about 12:50 a.m. Thursday, a 17-year-old man and his friend got into an argument with four black male suspects at the Alpine Inn Motel on E. State Street. During the fight, gunshots were fired, but no one was hit.
The teen and his friend then left the scene, and walked west on E. State on the south side of the road. Officials say the four suspects got into a small light blue vehicle, drove westbound on State and passed the two men, made a U-turn, then drove behind the men. One of the men told police that they then heard an engine accelerating behind them. The 17-year-old was hit by the vehicle, which crossed oncoming lanes and left the roadway to hit the victim, according to police.
Police in the area saw the vehicle leaving the scene, and followed the vehicle until the suspects got out and ran near the 100 block of Hunter Ave.
Officers were able to take one of the passengers into custody. The vehicle was reported as stolen.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. Rockford Police are investigating the incident.
