History is of course a study of the past. So bringing it to life can make a big difference in a classroom. A teacher at Hononegah High School is doing just that.
"Every day I come dreading school because I'm not a school person and I look forward to her class every day because she makes it so exciting," High School junior Kaylee Nowicki said.
A social studies teacher at Hononegah High is our WREX Teacher of the Week. She was nominated by Kaylee for the energy she brings to class.
"Yeah I don't turn off, but I feed off the kids," Ann Chapetta said. "They bring delight to every day."
Hononegah High School Associate Principal Chad Daugherty said Chapetta engages students and builds deep relationships with them.
"There is no doubt when Ms. Chapetta is around you know she's there," Daugherty said. "She's got a big personality and she conveys her passion for social studies."
Daugherty said Chapetta has great conversations with the students. She engages them in lessons, he said, and utilizes technology.
"History can kind of be pretty boring, but she makes it very interesting," junior Mya Hernandez said. "She likes to act, which helps me understand
Chapetta has taught for 22 years, all but two of them at Hononegah High.
"I like my subject matter, but I also really like kids, Chapetta said. "I like interacting with teenagers."
Kaylee said Mrs. Chapetta is a fun and loving teacher and takes time to get to know her and the other students.
"It makes learning so much easier for them, more enjoyable for them," Chapetta said.
She said they get more out of knowing she cares.
