Robert Eppinger returns to Rockford as AAU coach

Rockford Jefferson made a memorable run to state in 2005, finishing fourth in the IHSA tournament. One of the key players on that team returned to Rockford this weekend as an AAU coach with his youth team from Minnesota.

Robert Eppinger was behind the bench at Rockford Christian for the AAU Hoop Fest hosted by the Rockford Ambassadors program. It was a special experience for the former J-Hawk to be back coaching where he grew up.

"Oh man, it's awesome. Just seeing the faces around here, it's really emotional for me. It's the people I grew up with, it's the people who believed in me when no one else did. I have my good friend L.C. Robinson, we had that good Jefferson run, he's here to support. It's a great feeling. Also Reggie Biffle, one of my former AAU coaches, it's his tournament, he's a big part of what we're trying to do here."

Tune in to 13 News this week for more on Eppinger's redemption tour that found its way back to the Forest City.
