Many different cultures came together Saturday to celebrate diversity in the area.
More than 500 people came to East High School for a multicultural fair. Twenty-nine different cultures were represented, with booths, as well as music and dance.
The Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee, or BPAC, said it is important to increase cultural awareness in the Rockford community.
"One reason being our American bond that we melt culturally," said Mustafa Abdill, the BPAC Chairperson. "Secondly, as educators, it's very important for us to know our students' cultures."
This was the first year for the Multicultural Fair, and they plan to hold it again next year.
