People took advantage of the nice skies and warm temperatures on Saturday for Rockford's Meltfest.
Hundreds of runners came out to Meltfest 2016 on Saturday to celebrate the melting away of winter and start of spring. The 3rd annual 5k finished at Prairie Street Brewhouse, where there were plenty of family activities.
There was live music, a kids run and group bike ride, as well as plenty of market and food vendors. Proceeds from Meltfest will be given to Rock House Kids.
"It's really designed for the community with as much as possible free," said Brian Huels, the Founder/Organizer of Meltfest. "So with the exception of the 5k run, everything else is completely free, so everybody can come out and have a good time."
The festivities ran until 5 p.m. In all, more than 5,000 people attended Meltfest this year.
