Rockford and the Stateline received a variety of spring and wintry weather today, from early morning thunderstorms to steady, soaking rain showers, to a burst of heavy afternoon snow. The wet roads may form patches of ice in spots as temperatures drop below freezing tonight, so drive with caution!
A heavy band of snow is set up behind the departing storm system early in the afternoon, and most locations that saw snow picked up a quick 1/2" to 1" of slushy snow on the grass. However, keep a close eye on bridges and overpasses, as they are move exposed to the cold air and stay cooler than the neighboring road bed. Those locations may still have some slush or snow that could make roads slippery.
