More than 40 teachers in Rockford Public Schools are expected to be fired tomorrow during a RPS 205 board meeting.
This is because of their performance, not because of any budget or reduction in force cut.
The dismissals cover non-tenured teachers that have been on probation, which the district says is usually tied to performance.
These moves come as the district adopts a new teacher evaluation system.
REA, the teacher's union, says this is a tough time of year, but that the evaluation system for the district is improving.
The effected staff members have been notified. Tomorrow's meeting is for final approval by the school board.
The district says it will look to fill these positions before next school year. The dismissed staff will stay on through the end of the school year.
RPS 205 says the teachers' union has more than 2,000 teachers. The dismissals impact less than two percent of the teaching staff. The district also says dismissals happen around this time of year because the deadline to notify staff of non renewal is April 1st.
