The number of parents homeschooling their children in Winnebago County is quickly growing. One reason for the growth may have to do with how Illinois governs it; parents are allowed to homeschool their kids without the state even knowing about it.
In Illinois, parents are not required to register their children as homeschooled. One of the only requirements is that they must teach their kids the core subject areas for their age and do so in English.
According to the Home School Legal Defense Association Illinois is one of only 11 states that don't require parents to let the state know they are homeschooling their child.
