Annual CROP Hunger Walk raises $10,500 for local food pantries
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Local organizations celebrated their fundraising success together with a check presentation on Sunday.
Many gathered at the Rock River Valley Food Pantry Sunday for the annual CROP Walk Thank-You event. A $10,500 check was presented, which is Rockford's share of the 2015 Hunger Walk last fall. That money will be donated to pantries throughout the Rockford area. The annual walk has brought in over $250,000 for local hunger relief in its 30 years.
"It's important to the local community because of the money that we're able to raise for the pantries, and for the awareness that we hope to raise about the issues of hunger," said Rev. David Jones, CROP Hunger Walk chairman.
Organizers say this money will help local pantries feed up to 15 percent more people in need. The 2016 Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16 in downtown Rockford.
