Byron girls basketball completed a 33-3 run to the program's first ever state championship, defeating Teutopolis 53-44 in the 2-A title game at Redbird Arena.
Just as they have all year, the Lady Tigers relied on their core group of juniors to lead the way. Their "Big Three" delivered on the final day of the season. Paige Holloway (17 points, 10/11 at the free-throw line), Bailey Burrows (13 points, 8 rebounds), and Lexi DeVries (11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 32 minutes) powered Byron to the finish line.
The 33 victories sets a program record, eclipsing the 2012-2013 team coached by Eric Yerly that won 31 games.
