WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) -

Members of the Rockford Area CrimeStoppers' Board of Directors presented a check to Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana for a new K9 and two Kevlar bullet proof vests for both the new and existing K9.

CrimeStoppers raised $78,073.90 through donations over a period of 6 months. Board Chairperson Arles Hendershott says more than 50 percent of the donations came from county residents. School groups also raised money for the new K9 as well as the following local businesses and organizations:

  • The Community Foundation of Northern Illinois
  • Woodward Charitable Trust
  • Great Rockford Veterinary Medical Association
  • Oscars Pub and Grill
  • Jax Pub
  • Furry Babies
  • Alpine Bank
  • Paper Recovery/Frank Graceffa
  • Giovanni's/Joe Castrogiovanni

Hendershott says while everyone is concerned about crime, CrimeStoppers wanted to take action and do something to fight it, and she said those who donated also wanted to step up and fight crime.
