The high school basketball playoffs are in full swing in the Northern Illinois region, with a packed schedule of games on Monday night.
Byron's girls team highlighted the evening of hoops as the Lady Tigers are going to the 2-A Final Four, winning their Super-Sectional at Monmouth College against Peoria Christian, 46-37. Lexi DeVries paced Byron with 21 points and 6 rebounds. They will face Camp Point (Central) Co-Op on Friday at Illinois State at approximately 8:15 PM in the state semifinals.
The 3-A sectional semifinals in the girls bracket featured two Rockford teams playing in Rochelle. Boylan defeated St. Francis from Wheaton, 55-33. McKenzie Brown contributed 13 points for the Lady Titans, who will be appearing in their third straight sectional final. They will face Burlington Central, who defeated Rockford Lutheran, 51-39. The Lady Rockets were led by Sam Pryor's 19 points. The Lady Crusaders trimmed what was a 17-point deficit to start the fourth quarter down to 7, thanks to a late rally, but fell short of a comeback.
The 2-A boys basketball regionals began with Byron defeating West Carroll, 64-29. The Tigers will next face Rockford Christian in the regional semifinals. Joining them in the semifinal bracket will be Winnebago playing North Boone, who defeated South Beloit on Monday, 51-33.
The 1-A regionals send Pecatonica to the semifinals after the Indians beat Dakota, 56-47. They face River Ridge next. Stockton and Warren picked up victories in the East Dubuque regional. The Blackhawks will face East Dubuque in the semifinals, while the Warriors draw Aquin. Eastland squeaked past Erie at Forreston, 46-45. The Cougars' next opponent will be Annawan in the semifinals.
