The Freeport girls bowling team made a Saturday charge through the leaderboard at the state finals at Rockford's Cherry Bowl, finishing in second place behind Joliet West by 137 pins.
The Lady Pretzels ended Friday in eighth place as a team, trailing Joliet West by 356 pins before making a late push. Montana Hughes completed a fifth-place individual finish with fellow senior and former 13 Sports Athlete of the Week Brigitte Jacobs earning 14th place on the individual leaderboard.
Fellow NIC-10 team Harlem finished in fourth as a team, with junior Mylee McCracken recording the fourth-best individual score at the state final. Belvidere North took eighth as a team, appearing in the final weekend for the second straight season. Lady Blue Thunder sophomore Brynn Lambrecht's team-best score was good for 21st as an individual.
