Very strong wind gust topping 60 mph caused plenty of problems around northern Illinois today. Multiple semi rollovers occurred throughout the morning and afternoon, and you may have to do some yard clean-up with branches getting blown down and trash cans sliding around your neighborhood. The strong wind gusts will settle down throughout the evening, generally staying under 40 mph before 9 pm, then dropping to under 30 mph after 9 pm.
Be careful while driving, even with 40 mph wind gusts. You'll want to keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, especially while driving a high-profile vehicle. Slow down while driving through different neighborhoods tonight, as there may be debris or trash cans rolling around in the road; you'll want to give yourself plenty of time to react and dodge around them.
The winds will stay a little breezy (gusting to 20 mph) on Saturday, but we won't be seeing the very strong winds anytime soon after this evening. For more on the upcoming forecast, head over to www.wrex.com/weather for updates.
