Machesney Park man sentenced for aggravated battery of a 7-month-old

Judge Tobin with the Boone County Court system has sentenced Dylan Abbott, 23, of Machesney Park, to 11 years in prison for the aggravated battery of a 7-month-old.

On July 19, 2014,  Belvidere Police responded to a residence in the 2000 block of Davis Drive in reference to a call about a 7-month-old child not breathing.

The child was transported to SwedishAmerican Hospital in Belvidere then later transported and admitted to Rockford Memorial Health where the child was in critical condition with a head injury. Officials say the child has recovered and is healthy.

Abbott was the boyfriend of the child's mother, and was watching the child while the mother was running errands, according to police.

Abbott told police that the child had swallowed a small object and that he had attempted CPR on the child. Medical testimony refuted those claims.

Aggravated battery of a child is a Class X felony.
