RHA to ask for partnership with city to apply for HUD grant
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
The Rockford Housing Authority hopes to partner with the city to apply for federal money.
RHA CEO Ron Clewer says he wants to get a Housing & Urban Development grant that could be worth up to $2 million. He says the money would be used to improve the Orchid neighborhood surrounding Brewington Oaks public housing complex on the city's southeast side. Clewer plans to ask the city to partner with RHA in applying for this grant.
A year ago, RHA approached aldermen to apply for $28 million in federal grant money for the Ellis Heights neighborhood. That was denied. 1st Ward Alderman Tim Durkee was one of the council members against that partnership back then. He says he didn't agree with RHA's plan for Ellis Heights. Durkee says he'll vote 'yes' in committee Monday on this new item so full council can discuss it.
