One yearly event in Ogle County looks help nonprofits with kindness that comes from the heart.
Hundreds attended the "From the Heart" fundraiser in Rochelle on Saturday night.
Through auctions and raffles, local residents donated $40,000, which was split four ways between nonprofits.
This year's recipients are the Hub City Senior Center, CASA, Shining Star, and the Rochelle Area Community Foundation.
"The event was created because most of these boards have small boards and don't have the ability to raise funds of this kind on their own," said David Eckhardt, Organizer of From the Heart. "Today with the state of the economy in Illinois this money is a big deal to most of these organizations."
There was also one special item up for bid, separate from the event. A jersey signed by former New York Yankee baseball player Derek Jeter.
All proceeds from that item went to tornado relief from the April 9 tornado that hit Rochelle last year.
