Rock Valley College and RPS 205 will join forces for the third straight year as the RVC Physical Education Center will host the "Rumble in the Rock." Six games are on the schedule this Saturday (Jan. 30) showcasing the RPS boys and girls teams and both RVC basketball squads.
"(The PEC) holds 4300 people, it's too big for what we need, but for this event, it's absolutely not. Any time we can partner with the RPS 205 district and work together to bring a big event together, it's special and a win-win for everybody," says RVC head men's basketball coach Craig Doty.
The event is also a win-win from a recruiting standpoint for the RPS athletes and RVC's coaches. "We want to keep all the local talent at home. This is a big venue and special event to show those kids what a special place we have here at Rock Valley College," says RVC assistant women's coach Darryl Watkins.
"Rock Valley is right now the premiere JUCO program in the state, really. Even though they're Division III, they're going to the national tournament. It's a huge draw and they've recruited some of our guys. I certainly have encouraged our guys to go and hopefully they'll be recruiting some of our players this year," says Auburn head boys basketball coach Bryan Ott.
