The Janesville Fire Department responded to 170 S. Locust for a structure fire at 2:24 a.m. on Sunday.
Units arrived on scene to find fire on the front porch and a bedroom on fire. The fire extended to the second floor from the outside of the building. An additional Fire Engine was requested from the City of Milton.
It took about 35 minutes to have the fire under control. 13 residents were displaced by the fire, five adults, eight children and a family dog. The home and contents are a total loss. Damages are estimated at $56,900 with contents worth $15,000.
The Red Cross was called to assist the family. One firefighter suffered a minor injury requiring no treatment and three residents were assessed on scene for smoke inhalation, two of which were children. No one was transported.
All occupants were safely evacuated prior to arrival of fire units. The fire was found by a family member who alerted everyone in the house.
The fire is under investigation but is not suspicious.
