A 5-year-old boy is dead after a shooting at 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Shopiere Road in Beloit, according to Beloit Police Department.
Our sister station WKOW in Madison was at news conference just before 10:00 p.m. tonight, Interim Police Chief David Zibolski said the shooting happened when a man and his young five-year-old son were fired upon in their car at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Shopiere Road.
The little boy was shot in the stomach and later died of his injuries at the hospital.
Police are looking for a maroon GMC SUV in this incident. It is a late '90s or early 2000-year model. They don't know how many people were in that vehicle or why they may have been shooting at the man and his son's car. The man reported the SUV had been following his vehicle for some time, according to Zibolski.
Police are asking the public to avoid the area, as it's an ongoing investigation.
