At a time when the Illinois General Assembly is supposed to look at a budget for fiscal year 2017, lawmakers are still struggling for a 2016 budget. It may come as a surprise, then, that the Illinois House will not meet on the week of Jan. 10.
The House and Senate were scheduled to meet Jan. 13, but Speaker Mike Madigan sent a memo to House members, saying they don't have to appear. The Senate will still meet this week.
A Madigan spokesman tells 13 News that the speaker decided not to call the House in session until Jan. 27, due to a lack of bills ready for consideration by House committees.
